Dear Neighbors,

There is a very important Democratic primary election on September 6, 2018.  It is several months away, but I want to introduce myself to the constituents of the 9th Representative District.  My name is Jim Ryan and I have officially filed to be your next Democratic nominee.  I believe that being elected is not a career choice, but a choice to give back to the community and make people’s lives better.  Recently, I retired from Verizon of Delaware and I am currently serving my second term as President of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 13101.

In 1996 my wife and I decided to move to Summit Farms in Middletown, DE and raise our two daughters. Both of our children attended public school in the Appoquinimink School District.  My oldest daughter is a University of Delaware graduate and my youngest daughter will attend Delaware Technical Community College in the fall.  As a middle class family, we have been fortunate enough to provide our daughters access to a college education and I want to make sure that every child is afforded this same opportunity.  Access to quality post-secondary, advance training, and skills training are so important to ensuring a strong economic future for our state and our children.

As a union worker for over 30 years, and currently as Union President, I understand the importance of earning a livable wage plus having health insurance and retirement security.  Livable wage jobs with quality working environments should be accessible to all working Americans. Therefore, I believe that local businesses need our support in Dover to assist in sustaining a successful business while allowing new businesses the opportunity to make Delaware their new home. There is a clear connection between economic opportunity and healthy, safe communities.

As a father and homeowner, I support Delaware’s public safety community.  I work with public safety employees closely in my current position and see firsthand their incredible commitment to keep Delawareans safe everyday.  It is imperative that our local law enforcement, medics, and firefighters receive that same level of commitment from Dover.  Our police, EMT’s, paramedics, firefighters, and support personnel provide a service that ensures we can sleep at night, knowing they will be there in our time of need.  We must support and protect all public safety personnel and their services should never be threatened in Dover.  Your safety should be a priority. My campaign will be based on seeking common sense laws and an unwavering commitment to fight for the middle class and the safety of our community.

There are issues and concerns that impact all of us, and I am interested in hearing your concerns.  This election is about you and making sure your voice is heard in Dover.  I am asking for your support on September 6th in order to simply make a difference in the lives of every constituent within the 9th Representative District.

I will begin walking with neighbors and scheduling meet and greets within the local areas very soon.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 302-354-4400 or visit my website at
